With this in mind we set out to provide a complete business solution
with emphasis on premiums. We will provide a premium breakdown for the
various areas of cover, ranging from Property, Business Interruption,
Loss Of Money, Liabilities, Glass, Goods-In-Transit through to Computer
Breakdown Cover and Legal Expenses. We will discuss in depth the covers
available to ensure it meets with your own specific requirements.
Often seen as confusing, we aim to bring clarity to your business insurance
by providing a 'plain English' summary of the policy for quick and easy
reference.
With specific interest in trades such as Electrical & Electronics,
Engineering Processes and Business Support Services such as Printers,
Packaging & Finishing Companies, we are confident our insurance
markets can provide the policy to meet your individual needs.
To gain an insight into our thinking, we have shown below a few areas
we consider when arranging a commercial policy in addition to the standard
questions:
|
Business Activities |
Do you work away from your
premises? Do you hold exhibitions or demonstrations?
|
 |
Foundations |
Severe fires can cause damage
to the base foundations needing reconstruction. Local Authorities
may require more extensive foundations during rebuilding.
|
|
Machinery & Plant
|
Equipment that can only
be replaced from abroad will have a higher value and these increased
costs along with exchange rate fluctuations should be taken into
account when assessing the replacement sum insured.
|
|
Patterns, Moulds, Tools,
Dies, Plans & Drawings |
Special considerations need
to be given to these items to ensure the correct cover and sums
insured are applied.
|
 |
Free Issue Materials |
Important to establish who
is responsible and insure them sufficiently.
|
|
Customers' Goods |
Adequate assessment and
extent of liability must be checked.
|
|
Work-In-Progress |
As work in progress gains
value during the processing this must be taken into account within
the overall sum insured.
|
 |
Non-Ferrous and Precious
Metals |
Normally excluded from a
standard commercial policy a separate sum insured must be declared
to the insurers.
|
 |
Computers |
Most standard policies exclude
damage arising from Viruses and therefore specific cover should
be considered.
|
 |
Business Interruption |
There are a number of important
aspects to consider. For example the length of recovery time the
business would need following a serious fire taking into account
the trade, market position, competitors, alternative premises, availability
of plant and machinery, type of premises, suppliers and customers.
|
 |
Electricity At Work
Act 1989 |
This came into force on
1st April 1990 and requires
that electrical equipment and installations are maintained to prevent
danger. We recommend that independent examinations are carried out
on a regular basis.
|
 |
Statutory Inspections |
Periodic inspection of plant
by a competent person is required by law in respect of various items
such as fork lift trucks, air receivers, lifts and hoists, lifting
gear, steam pressure vessels, ventilation plant.
|
 |
Marine Cargo & Transit |
Goods taken in or out of
the country need to be insured correctly.
|
 |
Liability |
Considerations to both type
and areas of products supplied, exports to USA & Canada, pollution
exposure, potential financial loss to customers, failure of the
product to perform its intended function.
|
 |
Overseas |
Are there any overseas operations/
locations?
